Stanly County Emergency Management continues responding to Tropical Storm Debby, which has significantly impacted the region.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, the county has experienced 48 road closures due to flooding and debris, with 15 roads still closed. Crews are working to restore access and ensure safety on roads, according to Emergency Services Director Michael Roark.
Since 2 a.m., the Stanly County 911 Center has processed 181 emergency calls related to the storm.
To support ongoing efforts, three local swift water rescue teams are on standby in Stanly County, with an additional state swift water team ready to assist as needed. These teams are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise as the storm progresses, Roark said.
The county has received three reports of structural damage. Assessments are ongoing.
The Stanly County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated since 4 a.m., coordinating response efforts across the county. Emergency management personnel are working with local law enforcement, fire departments and public works to address the needs of the community.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed through official channels. Road conditions are changing rapidly and it is crucial to follow all advisories and avoid unnecessary travel, Roark said.
