Today’s Activities

Badin Library Branch Manager Treva Allmon invites homeschool students and preschoolers to Storytime and Crafts today and on April 23 at 10:30 a.m. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 3-7 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

The Town Council’s monthly meeting is tonight at 7 in Town Hall, 36 Falls Road. Visitors are welcome.

Town Clean-up
Semi-annual town clean-up continues through April 12. It provides Badin residents a way to dispose of unwanted or damaged appliances, furniture, tires and rims (must be separated), construction debris, cans of dried paint and miscellaneous household items. Please separate discards by category, and remember no cardboard or yard debris will be picked up. Anything remaining curbside seven days beyond April 12 could lead to owner citations.

Badin Police Department

The town welcomes two new officers to the Badin Police Department: Joshua Burnett and Timothy Shelton.

Shelton has served for several years in another part of the county while Burnett comes from six years of service with the town of Matthews in Mecklenburg County.

Badin Police Chief Stephen Smith said recently, “We’re looking forward to their contributions helping our department continue to positively impact the greater Badin community.”

Palestine Community Church

Palestine Pals meets for lunch at the Rosebriar Restaurant today at 11:30 a.m.

A Red Cross blood drive is scheduled for April 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church hut, 36414 Palestine Road.

Donors may register ahead of time at www.RedCrossBlood.org.

Better Badin

Thank you to Better Badin volunteers who diligently look for ways to serve the community. The first Badin Bunny Egg Hunt enjoyed egg-cellent success March 30 with more than 100 children participating.

Celtic Festival

The Loch Badin Celtic Festival and Highland Games promise fun and games on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the 1913 Badin Inn.

A complete schedule will be available in the next Badin calendar.

Attendees will enjoy Highland music and dance, plus food and drink, vendors offering Celtic merchandise and history lessons, photo opportunities with Highland cows and a full day of men’s and women’s Highland athletics.

On the day of the festival, Better Badin is coordinating tours of the historic Narrows Dam. Built in 1917 to supply the Alcoa plant with power, it was the largest dam in the state and the highest overflow-type dam anywhere at that time.

Only rarely does the public have an opportunity to get an up-close look at this area marvel.

Better Badin is offering shuttle rides from Falls Road at a cost of $5 per person, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children 10 and under may ride for free. Employees will provide tours of the powerhouse.
