Stanly County commissioner wins Republican primary

The voters of Stanly County designated one of its current commissioners as its representative for the November general election.
Scott Efird, who last year served as the chairman of the Stanly County Baord of Commissioners, won the Republican primary Tuesday night.
Efird received 6,378 votes (61.2%) while his opponent, Levi Greene, received 4,046 votes (38.8%).
“I’m so excited,” Efird said after the last district’s votes were included online. “This is the third time I’ve run for county commissioner and this one felt different to me for some reason. I don’t know why.”
Efird said he wanted to thank everyone who helped him, voted for him and prayed for him.
“I have nothing bad to say about Levi Greene. We just disagreed. He ran a good, clean race, and I’m proud of that. More politicians should do the same thing.”
Efird will face Libertarian candidate and former Stanly County Board of Education member Melvin Poole in the general election in November.
