Pfeiffer University got 20 points from Brina Bentley and 14 points from A’Mya McClain in a 67-49 USA South win over visiting Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon at Merner Gym.
After trailing 11-10 after the first quarter, the Falcons (4-2, 2-1 USA South) took control in the second, building a 26-22 lead by halftime.
In the third quarter, Pfeiffer built the lead to 43-33 after a Bentley jumper with 1:29 left. After a Monarch basket cut the lead to 45-37, McClain hit a jumper to put Pfeiffer up 47-37 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, the Falcons limited Methodist to just a pair of free throws over the first five minutes of play, building a 60-39 lead. Methodist’s cold shooting woes continued, as it only managed three field goals in the fourth, with the Falcons taking the win.
The win improves Pfeiffer to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in USA South play while Methodist slips to 2-9 overall and 1-3.
