Community
The Stanly County NAACP presents the Annual MLK Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the E.E. Waddell Community Center. The theme for the event is “Normalcy Never Again.” The keynote speaker will be Dr. Reginald Boyd, pastor of Union Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from any member of NAACP.
Badin4Life Foundation presents the 3rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gospel Showcase at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center. Doors will open at 3 p.m.
Community Civic Service Awards will be presented to Rev. David Thompson and First Lady Edna Thompson, Rev. Parnell Kelly Jr. and First Lady Marianne Kelly, and Bishop Roy Washington and First Lady Joretha Washington.
The event will feature Grammy nominee and Stellar Award winning gospel recording artist Rev. Luther Barnes.
Co-hosts are Padtor Joshua Ellerbe, Avonda Thomas and Fran Young.
Tickets are $20.
Church News
Resurrection Community Church, along with Pastor Michael Stovall, invite you to the installation of Elder Tonya Covington as assistant pastor, at 3 p.m. Jan. 28.
New Direction Life Ministries will host “Men United For Christ: A Movement, Community and Youth Prayer Breakfast” at 9 a.m. Jan. 20.
The theme is “Act Like A Man.” The speaker will be Rev. Michael Stovall, pastor of Resurrection Community Ministries. Bring your youth out.
Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Samantha Bowden, will host a gospel singing program on at 5 p.m. Jan. 27. Minister Pam Smith will be the mistress of ceremony.
Save the date
East Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church will host a Valentine’s Day Ball at 5 p.m. Feb. 25.
Tickets are $15 single and $30 couple. The event is formal and will take place at Resurrection Community Church.
The mistress of ceremony will be Rev. Vanessa Chambers.
