The Stanfield Town Council conducted public hearings Thursday to gather input on proposed amendments to the town’s zoning ordinance, as well as a special use permit for AJA Designs, a graphic arts business on Nance Road.
The proposed zoning ordinance amendments would define and set regulations for short-term rentals, and would also define and regulate event venues within the town limits.
“Our current ordinance does not allow short-term rentals such as AirBnB or Vrbo,” said Mayor James Kluttz, with Councilman Greg Lucas adding that the purpose of the amendment is to “address such rentals in the ordinance.”
Lucas also noted that the town’s zoning ordinance does not address event venues.
“These are properties or pieces of properties used for special events such as weddings, birthday parties, and such … we need to define an event venue, and assure that the venue’s events would not have a negative effect on neighbors,” he said.
Questions raised in the hearings included special taxation of short-term rental properties (none is planned) and noise regulations for event venues (the town’s current ordinance prohibits loud noise from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.).
Both ordinance revisions, as well as the special use permit, were approved unanimously by the council later in the meeting.
