Stanly Community College recently held its annual induction ceremony for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Thirty-six students were invited for induction.
Keynote speaker Mike Hatley shared the stories of four people in his life who exhibit the PTK hallmarks: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship. He challenged the inductees to carry these hallmarks moving forward in their academics, careers and communities.
Chapter President Elizabeth Lassing and Secretary Kolby Hatley both welcomed the newest inductees and shared information about the group’s recent service projects.
The mission of Phi Theta Kappa Society is to recognize outstanding academic accomplishments of two-year college students internationally and provide opportunities for the members to develop professional and leadership skills.
To be invited for membership at SCC, students must earn a 3.75 cumulative grade point average and must have completed at least 15 semester hours of credit toward an associate degree. Students must also keep a 3.50 GPA or higher to adhere to eligibility requirements.
SCC’s Alpha Psi Upsilon Chapter was chartered in 1993.
