The City of Albemarle is partnering with Stanly Community College to offer instruction for students in the college’s Electrical Lineworker training program.
Members of the City of Albemarle’s Electric Division share their skill and experience over the course of the program to ensure the next generation of lineworkers have the training they need to enter their career field.
“Our Electric Division has a long tradition of passing down critical knowledge to new members of our organization. Our team is excited to have this opportunity to share its expertise with students at Stanly Community College,” said Jay Voyles, Albemarle Public Utilities director.
The City of Albemarle’s partnership with Stanly Community College for the training program is an example of the City of Albemarle putting its Strategic Plan in action. The Strategic Plan calls for improving workforce training and enhancing community partnerships.
Students in the training learn skills of installing and repairing electrical power distribution systems. Instruction covers basic elements of electricity, overhead pole and electrical line construction, safety codes and applications, electric power system, as well as transformer and meter installations.
“We are very appreciative of the City for this partnership and the creative approach to continuing a program aimed at supporting such a high-demand career field. Community success plays an integral role in our strategic plan as well and we feel our joint efforts will be beneficial for all involved,” said Dr. John Enamait, Stanly Community College president.
