Guilford College used a big second quarter to pull away from Pfeiffer University in a nonconference women’s basketball game, winning 77-61 in Greensboro on Dec. 17.
Pfeiffer took the 18-17 lead after the first quarter, but allowed the Quakers to have a big second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 26-6 to lead at halftime 43-24.
Pfeiffer was able to trim the Quaker lead to 60-50 in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as the Falcons would get the rest of the way, with Guilford taking the 77-61 win to close the 2022 calendar year.
Guilford finished 26-of-66 from the field (39.4%) while Pfeiffer managed a 35.6% (21-of-59) shooting effort.
Freshman Miya Horton (Lenoir, N.C.) led the way for Pfeiffer, as she scored 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
Fellow freshman Hannah Isley (China Grove, N.C.) had 12 points and five rebounds for the Falcons. Isley also managed a pair of blocks.
Sophomore Tanaesha Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) was the final Falcon player in double-figures, as she had 11 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. She also had a pair of blocks and a pair of steals.
The loss drops Pfeiffer to 2-7 overall while Guilford improves to 7-3.
Pfeiffer will return to take on Southern Virginia in a USA South game on Wednesday in Buena Vista, Virginia.
