Albemarle Police: Man dies after ‘a gun unintentionally discharged’

A man died Tuesday afternoon after “a gun was unintentionally discharged,” Albemarle Police revealed Wednesday.
Officers responded to 506 S. First St. around 2 p.m. in referenced to a gunshot wound. APD, Stanly County Sheriff’s Office and Stanly County EMS personnel found 35-year-old Shaun Thomas Prislusky, who had been shot. He was taken by Atrium Medevac helicopter to Atrium Stanly, where he died after landing from his injuries, police said.
Albemarle Police said the incident did not happen inside of Stanly Community Christian Ministry, located at 506 S. First St. It happened in wooded area behind the building. Prislusky was not in possession of the gun when it discharged, a police spokesman added.
An investigation remains open.
SCCM posted a messaged Tuesday night saying “we have no details or specifics to share other than our staff and volunteers are safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved and the rescue teams that are caring for those who are injured.”
