Superintendent announces virtual day, community forum at North Stanly

Stanly County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Dennis took to Facebook late Thursday with a message to North Stanly High School families.
“This is Superintendent Dr. Jarrod Dennis with an important message for tomorrow,” the post began. “We will have a virtual day for NSHS students on Friday, March 18. Students will not need to report to school, and all learning will be conducted remotely through Canvas. There will be an opportunity for members of the NSHS community to engage in dialogue concerning events that transpired this week.
“A Community Forum will be held at 1:30 pm in the NSHS Auditorium. Doors will open at 1:15 pm. Please enter through the front entrance. Participants will be asked to sign in and as with all large capacity events at schools, participants will be required to pass through a metal detector.”
The forum comes during a week which included students speaking out about what they consider inequality after a video was shared on SnapChat and Facebook of two students singing a song that contained a racial epithet. Students also participated in peaceful protests at the school and a gathering at New London Park to share their views.
