J.T. Ford of Richfield, past chairman of the Stanly County Board of Commissioners, was named county chairman for the Stanly County 2000 steering committee, which has its counterparts all over the state as Gov. James B. Hunt launched an aggressive program to prepare the state for the next 20 years.

Hunt said North Carolina 2000 will include local meetings and statewide polls “to get citizens choosing directions for the future (and) it will bring together leaders and citizens across the state to develop proposals for action.”
