School board approves capital improvement projects for upcoming school year

During a special called school board meeting on Friday, the board of education unanimously approved the capital requests for the upcoming 2021-2022 budget.
Todd Bowers, SCS director of facilities and maintenance, presented a short summary of many of the capital improvement projects.
As long as projected costs don’t increase more than 10 percent, which the school board would need to know about, Bowers was given the green-light to go ahead and start accepting bids for the capital projects.
The capital budget totals roughly $3 million and will include:
- $58,500 for athletics;
- $20,000 for band;
- $50,000 for furniture;
- $500,000 for technology;
- $50,000 for AC units 10 tons or less;
- $30,000 for cafeteria equipment;
- $55,000 for district-wide roof repairs;
- $10,000 for concrete work;
- $90,000 for district-wide painting;
- $10,000 to replace Albemarle High’s carpet;
- $60,000 for Albemarle High roof recoat;
- $7,500 to replace Albemarle Middle’s carpet in waiting area to LVT;
- $5,500 to replace Albemarle Middle’s foyer carpet;
- $65,000 for Aquadale boiler;
- $7,500 for Aquadale cafeteria window tint;
- $10,000 for Badin carpet in office;
- $12,000 for Badin tile in upper bathrooms;
- $85,000 for additional Central parking;
- $25,000 to replace Central’s carpet in waiting area to LVT;
- $7,500 for East Albemarle gym floor;
- $35,000 to replace Endy’s carpet;
- $25,000 to convert Endy to LED;
- $150,000 for Locust building 29 chiller;
- $27,000 to maintenance to replace one van;
- $35,000 to convert Millingport carpet to VCT;
- $25,000 to replace Norwood’s gym carpet;
- $150,000 to renovate Norwood’s bathrooms;
- $40,000 for Norwood roof recoat;
- $250,000 to replace Norwood’s windows;
- $75,000 to renovate North Stanly High’s field house;
- $500,000 to replace North Stanly High’s roof;
- $350,000 to replace Richfield’s roof;
- $15,000 for SCS fence repair;
- $20,000 for SCS parking lot work;
- $45,000 for South Stanly High’s track recoat;
- $25,000 for Stanly Academy coat roof;
- $100,000 for transportation addition;
- $12,000 for transportation forklift; and
- $25,000 for West Stanly Middle office carpet.
Security projects funded through the quarter-cent sales tax include:
- $125,000 for access control for elementary schools;
- $35,000 for additional cameras for middle and high schools;
- $180,000 for Albemarle High intercom;
- $15,000 for Aquadale fence;
- $100,000 for Badin intercom;
- $15,000 for East Albemarle fence;
- $75,000 for East Albemarle intercom;
- $75,000 for Endy intercom;
- $6,000 for Lobbyguard license;
- $180,000 for North Stanly High intercom;
- $15,000 for playground mulch;
- $55,000 to repair playground/sports equipment;
- $20,000 for Richfield fence;
- $180,000 for South Stanly High intercom;
- $65,000 for South Stanly High security vestibule;
- $43,000 for transportation bus radio license; and
- $180,000 for West Stanly High intercom.
