Population
The City of Albemarle had topped the 15,000 mark in population. The final official census report shows Albemarle to have 15,110 people. Through annexations in the last few years, Albemarle had a 35.8 percent increase in population.
Stanly County is credited with 48,517, an increase of 13.3 in 10 years. The 1970 census show Stanly to have 42,822 people.
Other census figures included Locust, 1,590; Norwood, 1,818; Oakboro, 587; Stanfield, 463; New London, 454; and Richfield, 373.
Cable
Vision Cable of Albemarle completed its first home installation April 1 at the residence of Laura Ragsdale near N.C. Highway 73.
Plans were to complete installations in the West Albemarle area before heading to North Albemarle and other areas of the city.
