The Pfeiffer University men’s soccer team closed the 2021 spring regular season with a 1-1 tie in USA South play at the WakeMed Soccer Park against William Peace University Sunday.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 stalemate in the first half, but in the second half, Pfeiffer (2-4-1, 1-3-2 USA South) struck first when Nico Soriano (Concord, N.C.) knocked in a header off a corner kick past the WPU goalkeeper in the 77th minute. Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) delivered the kick to the backside of the Pacer box, where Soriano outjumped several WPU defenders and directed the ball to the short post and into the net, to push Pfeiffer ahead 1-0
Following the Pfeiffer goal, WPU (4-1-2, 4-1-1) was able to draw even at 1-1 in the 88th minute after Jose Garcia took a pass from Jorge Aguilar and was able to beat Falcon goalkeeper Johvany Herrera (Concord, N.C.) through a crowded box to tie the game.
