The Albemarle City Council approved two rezonings during Monday night’s meeting.
The first was an almost 15,000-square-foot vacant lot on Sides, Colston and Rush streets. The lot will be rezoned from R-8/Neighborhood Residential to R-6/Urban Residential District.
The Charlotte-based company Better Path Homes requested the rezoning, which would split the lot into two lots, allowing for the construction of two homes.
One house would face Front Street while the other would face Sides Street.
“We believe building two houses on this lot will greatly benefit the community and improve the area,” the company wrote as part of the zoning change application.
The council also agreed to rezone three properties located on Bell Avenue, East Main Street and Bogan Street/Eastover Avenue from GHBD/General Highway Business District and R-8/Two-Family Residential District to R-6/Urban Residential Home District.
The properties are adjacent to new homes being built and so Charlotte-based company Olde South Land Partners, which requested the rezoning, wants to add to the new residential development with a combination of single-family and townhomes.
