The Pfeiffer University men’s basketball team won their fourth-straight game on Friday afternoon, downing Methodist 77-71 in a USA South game in Fayetteville.
With the win, Pfeiffer improves to 7-2 overall and 7-2 in league play while Methodist drops to 5-5 overall and 5-4 in conference games. The Falcons trail N.C. Wesleyan by a half-game for first place in the Eastern Division of the USA South Conference.
Jerome Savoy (Waldorf, Md.) continued his stellar play, scoring 19 points, going 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-10 from the free throw line. He also hit one three-pointer and had an assist and two rebounds. Freshman teammate Dorian Miles (Greenville, S.C.) just missed a double-double, as he scored 10 points and had nine rebounds.
After the Falcons enjoyed a 41-27 advantage at halftime, Methodist would close the score to 66-60 following a layup with 2:36 to play but Savoy hit layups on back-to-back trips down the floor to boost the lead to 70-62 with 1:26 to play.
Methodist would threaten in the waning seconds, closing to 75-71 after a three-pointer from Clayton Coe, but Savoy canned a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to provide the eventual 77-71 final.
Pfeiffer and Methodist will square off again Sunday afternoon in Merner Gym in the final regular season home game of the 2021 season. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
