Stanly Community College (SCC) Accounting and Finance Student Vyktoria Iverson has received a scholarship in memory of Ann Kiser, who served as administrative assistant to three presidents during her 35 years of employment with SCC.
After retirement, Ann Kiser moved to Douglassville, Pennsylvania, to be near family in the area. She passed away March 31, 2020.
“We thought an extremely meaningful memorial for Ann would be to assist a student at the College in completing an educational program,” said Kimberly Alaimo, Ann Kiser’s niece. “Ann was interested in all the students, but she was particularly proud of the ones who served in leadership roles in the College’s student organizations, so we identified Vyktoria Iverson through her involvement in both Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and the Student Government Association (SGA). Since my brother and I could not be there, we asked Ann’s good friend and co-worker, Sarah Barnett, who is also on the College staff, to present the scholarship.”
Vyktoria Iverson has been a member of PBL for two years, participating in last year’s State Leadership Conference and taking an active role in online local and state activities this fall. She is also active in the Student Government Association (SGA).
“Although Vyktoria did not know Ann, I have told her what an integral part of the SCC history Ann was,” PBL and SGA Advisor Dan Hazlett said. “Ann and I were both on staff the year SCC began classes, and we watched the College grow, the new campus being built, and many students complete courses and become successful leaders in their careers and the community. As her niece said, she liked the success stories of students building the College’s reputation over her 35 years. Her SCC friends were sorry to hear of her passing, and we appreciate this memorial gesture by her family. It is a special honor for Vyktoria.”
