Locust citizens have a new opportunity to participate in local government.
The city’s planning and zoning board is currently seeking a volunteer board member; anyone who lives in the city limits is eligible to apply.
“Locust is a fast growing city,” said Scott Efird, the department director who works most closely with the board. “It’s very exciting to be part of this board that get’s to watch the landscape of Locust change.”
Members of the board are often the first to see proposed plans for new development in the city, staff detailed. And if that proposed development requires special permits or a zoning change, board members research, discuss and then make a recommendation on the matters to the city council.
Those interested in applying for such a position must do so by Sept. 25. Applications can be found online at www.locustnc.com. For more information email Scott Efird at sefird@locustnc.com.
At their meeting on Aug. 9, the Locust City Council also heard addresses from Jeff Crisco and Thai Vang.
Crisco is running for Stanly County sheriff and Vang is running for District Court Judge in November.
