State taps Norwood’s water quality

For the second time in three years, the Norwood water department has been honored for its water quality.
Chris Borre and Brian Keith of Environlink display a framed award for their excellence in keeping Norwood’s drinking water clean.
The N.C. Division of Water Resources recognized 69 water treatment plants for exceeding federal and state drinking water standards. Norwood was among those honored with the 2017 N.C. Area Wide Optimization Program (WOP) Award, part of the state’s effort to enhance the performance of existing surface water treatment facilities.
Norwood also won the award for 2015.
Awards are given each year to water systems that demonstrate outstanding turbidity removal, a key test of drinking water quality. Turbidity is a measure of the cloudiness or haziness of water caused by individual particles that can interfere with disinfection.
Norwood contracts with Environlink to handle its water treatment facility. Environlink’s Chris Borre and Brian Keith said the achievement is the result of careful monitoring of data.
