Stanly County Schools has posted a survey on its website asking graduating seniors or their parents for input regarding various possible graduation options.

“Because of the current COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, Stanly County Schools is exploring alternative plans, should the need arise, for Spring 2020 graduation ceremonies,” the survey said.

There are four options students can choose from: a virtual graduation on the scheduled date of graduation, a virtual graduation later in the summer, no virtual graduation and a traditional ceremony later in the summer if possible and no virtual graduation and no ceremony in the summer.

There is also a space for students to provide any suggestions or feedback related to Spring 2020 graduation ceremonies. Students are encouraged to “include as much detail as you like” in the text box.

“County office administration have been looking at alternative ways to celebrate our seniors in the event that restrictions are still in place come the end of the school year,” said Hope Miller-Drye, administrative and board assistant.

She added that Superintendent Dr. Jeff James stated during a recent board of education meeting that the school system would continue to “plan for making up large events, such as prom and graduation, alternatively or delayed if at all possible.”

The survey will be available on the website until April 27, Miller-Drye said.

Gov. Roy Cooper issued an executive order last month closing all schools until May 15.
