SCS spent more than $700,000 in safety measures thanks to sales tax

Stanly County Schools has spent more than $700,000 toward improving safety at each of the schools in the county, thanks to the quarter-cent sales tax that was approved during the November 2018 election.
“SCS has received money from the Quarter Cent Sales Tax this year and we are over 70 percent complete with projects benefiting the whole district,” according to a news release posted on the school system’s website.
Each school’s main office was installed with LobbyGuard, a visitor identification system, and cameras with a server.
Here is a guide to projects each school has completed and ones that are still in the pipeline.
- Aquadale Elementary received $67,748 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app, smart button immediate alert system, PA system speakers and fencing around the perimeter. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff.
- Badin Elementary received $36,000 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app, smart button immediate alert system. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff and fencing around the perimeter.
- Central Elementary received $39,000 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff.
- East Albemarle Elementary received $60,379 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app, smart button immediate alert system and fencing around the perimeter. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff.
- Endy Elementary received $32,500 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff and fencing around the perimeter.
- Locust Elementary received $80,753 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system, PA system speakers and fencing around the perimeter. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff.
- Millingport Elementary received $29,000 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. Future projects: installing a security vestibule, replacing damaged playground equipment, installing a keypad entry for emergency management services and a card reader for staff and fencing around the perimeter.
- Norwood Elementary received $48,870 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system and fencing around the perimeter. - Oakboro Choice STEM School received $31,000 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. - Richfield Elementary received $37,000 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. - Stanfield Elementary received $34,477 worth of funded projects including a two-way radio update, installing a security vestibule, anonymous alert system, Here Comes the Bus app and smart button immediate alert system. - The middle schools received $140,000 worth of funded projects including LobbyGuard and cameras with servers. Future projects: installing security vestibules, card readers for staff, keypad entry for emergency management services and fencing around the perimeters.
- The high schools received $70,000 worth of funded projects including cameras with servers and LobbyGuard. Future projects: installing security vestibules and fencing around the perimeters.
