The West Stanly men’s basketball team continued a strong start to the season Friday night with an 81-45 road win over East Rowan.
Points came from multiple sources for the Colts (6-0) in the win. Austin Medlin led with 18 points with Trevor Kelly adding 17 points.
Of West’s 12 players in the scorebook, 11 put points on the board, including Brack Morgan and freshman Tayshawn Haygood scoring nine points each. Ethan Conner added seven off the bench as well.
West’s defense helped the Colts jump out to a 25-4 lead early over the Mustangs (1-5).
Not since 2016, when the Colts opened the season 8-0, has West started as well.
“We shot the ball well and played with a ton of energy,” West head coach John Thompson said. “Jordan Manshack did a fantastic job of making sure we played at the pace we wanted. We shared the ball and played really hard. It really starts there for us.”
The Colts are off until Thursday when West travels to Norwood to take on South Stanly (2-2) who lost Friday night at Chatham Central, 64-54.
