Letter to the Editor: Support arts education

The Stanly County Arts Council is proud to join with N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper in recognizing the week of Sept. 8 – 14 as Arts In Education Week.
Designated by Congress in 2010, National Arts in Education Week is a celebration of the power of the arts in education.
As the governor’s proclamation states, arts education, including dance, media arts, music,
theater arts and visual arts, is an essential element in a complete and well-rounded education for all students. Arts education enables students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, imagination and creativity, discipline and collaboration, alternative ways to communicate and express feelings and cross-cultural understanding, which all support personalized pathways to academic success.
Stanly County is fortunate to have a number of talented, creative, artistic individuals who have dedicated their careers to bringing these life changing arts classes to all ages in our local schools.
The Arts Council supports their efforts in a number of ways during the school year
including recognizing an Arts Educator of the Year.
During this week, the Stanly County Arts Council asks school administrators, parents,
students and the public to join us in celebrating and honoring the arts teachers in our schools.
