LETTER TO THE EDITOR: I have an issue with AR-15 raffle

Oh, but I do have an issue with the AR-15 raffle issue. ( https://www.thesnaponline.com/2019/08/16/chief-sees-no-issue-offering-ar-15-as-top-raffle-prize/ )
This letter is not about gun control or the second amendment, although banning assault weapons and implementing comprehensive background checks would be a beginning to common sense gun control.
This letter is about a fund-raising method that raffles off an assault weapon and other types of weapons in order to raise money for a wonderful cause.
The argument that weapons do not kill people, that people kill people, is a shallow, overused argument to those families who have been devastated and ravaged by senseless killings at the hands of those who used assault weapons.
I am disappointed in our Chief of Police with the City of Albemarle who seems to put
raising money more important than the deaths of hundreds of people, including
children and young adults.
The Butterfly House is to protect children, and its funding should not be on the backs of hundreds of children who have been killed or wounded by assault weapons. And I am also disappointed that the organization that is sponsoring these fund-raising activities, the Stanly Health Foundation, does not have some sort of regulation regarding how this money is being raised.
Certainly we need to “keep the eye on the prize,” but at what cost?
