The City of Albemarle sent out a news release Monday in order “to make the public aware of changes to the drinking water.”

“Due to the sudden and early stretch of hot, dry weather, organic changes have taken place in the raw supply of water that is the source of the City’s drinking water,” the release said.

The changes occur each year but usually happen later in the year and more gradually.

“As a result, we are receiving reports from some customers of taste and odor issues with the water,” the release added.

The city assures residents that “there are no issues with the quality or safety of the water.”

The city is changing treatment processes to address the issue and is also conducting flushing across the system to move water out of the system.

While improvements have already been observed, the release notes “it may be towards the end of this week before the condition is eliminated.”

The news release comes after Stanly County tweeted the following on Sunday: “Due to the turnover of the water at the Tuckertown Reservoir, customers in the Pfeiffer-North Stanly Water District may experience poor water taste over the next few days. The City of Albemarle has tested the water & the quality has not been impacted. The water is safe to drink.”
