Letter To The Editor: A few reminders for volunteers
Published 3:11 pm Friday, April 26, 2019
As you know, Memorial Day Weekend is approaching and it will be time to put out flags to honor the deceased veterans buried in Stanly County.
We will be placing flags in Fairview and Stanly Gardens on May 25 and leaving them through May 27.
Of course, you may choose your own time in placing those you will be putting out in private cemeteries or churches.
A breakfast will be sponsored by VFW Post 2908 at 119 Anderson Road, Albemarle, starting at 7 a.m. May 25 for those putting out flags. This breakfast is for all volunteers that will be placing flags on this day before going to the cemeteries, not the general public.
Please check your flags and if you have any that need to be replaced due to being worn and/or faded, let us know.
The Veterans Service Office (704-986-3694), at the Stanly Commons, has new flags to replace the ones that are unusable.
Also, if you are in need of an updated burial list for the cemetery you are responsible for, that can be picked up at the same office.
Thank you in advance for giving of your time and energy to help honor the memories of those veterans who once served our country to preserve our freedoms and our way of life, and have now gone on before us.
