Editor’s Note: The following is in response to a letter in the April 22 edition of The SNAP.
Having not read the letter mentioned in the April 19-20 edition of SNAP, I cannot comment on this author’s thoughts about that letter.
It is fitting, however, to respond to this author’s various thoughts that have nothing to do with Good Friday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar during Holy Week that begins with Palm Sunday and ends with the joy of Easter.
What in heaven’s name does his complaint about “woke” have to do with anything Christian, exactly? That word is thrown around among certain circles these days with not one central understanding of its meaning. All I gain from it is its use as pejorative against anyone who does not believe in the extremist views of the far right, be they Christian Nationalists or others.
The last part of his letter is, like his mention of “Woke Week” earlier, completely undefined and unrelated to Jesus’ life and ministry and has no place in his reasoning. In fact, Jesus’ life and ministry was entirely about love and compassion and mercy and loving one’s God and fellow man as himself.
So what does that have to do with the illegal removal of immigrants from our country?
Illegal, of course, I remind all, because the Trump administration has completely bypassed the Constitution’s specific right to due process in these actions. Due process is one of the bulwarks of democracy against tyranny.
And what does Jesus and His love have to do with the unfounded lies the writer presents about the “Left,” whoever that is, illegally importing voters, etc.?
And what does Jesus and His love have to do with his unfounded lies about Ukraine?
“Woke nonsense?”
Jesus has everything to do with God’s love for all human kind, no matter who or what or where.
Too bad the writer seems to have been so conflated in his understanding of Christianity.
The saints and all heaven must be weeping for him, as I do.
