The National Weather Service issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying fire danger remains in the Piedmont through 6 p.m. due to a combination of wind gusts (20 to 25 mph) and relative humidity levels (20-25%).

The combination of wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph, relative humidity levels of 20 to 25% and dryness across the region, an increased fire danger has been issued for all of central North Carolina Wednesday morning through Wednesday afternoon, the statement continued. Outdoor burning is discouraged into this evening and on Wednesday. Please refer to your local burn permitting authority on whether you can burn. If you do burn, use extreme caution and ensure fire suppression equipment is readily available.
