Rev. A. Lamonds visited Albemarle in May 1912. He was an evangelist of the Congregational churches of North Carolina and was holding a tent revival. At the end of the services, several members of the community convinced Rev. Lamonds to help organize a new local church. The first meeting was held July 28, 1912. In the months that followed, the new First Congregational Church met in a brush arbor, a tent and on occasion in the homes of church members. Later in 1912, construction began on a church building that was completed by May of the following year. Over time the church grew so a new building was constructed. It was completed, except for the basement, in time for the first service to be held on Easter Sunday of 1928. During 1936 the church name was changed to the Congregational Christian Church. The basement of the church building was finally completed in 1937. An organ was installed in 1949, and a parsonage was added in 1952. An educational building was added in 1965, and a replacement organ was installed in 1983. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
