The Suda Institute has received a $100,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for use in a project to benefit Stanly County.
This project, running through Sept. 29, aims to strengthen the collaborative network of care for mothers and infants affected by substance use disorder in Stanly County.
The project is part of the Stanly Substance Use Network (SUN) initiative.
“This funding will help us strengthen the healthcare system and improve access to care to ensure all children and their mothers can be healthy” said Gina Hofert, CEO of The Suda Institute, which serves Stanly, Rowan and Cabarrus counties. “By working closely with our community partners, we can make a real impact in the lives of families impacted by substance use.”
The network will develop a multi-sector, coordinated system of care to connect mothers with SUD to the necessary health and social services. Partners include:
• Stanly Department of Public Health
• Stanly Department of Social Services
• Cabarrus Health Alliance – SUN Clinic
• Atrium Health Stanly
• Stanly County Emergency Medical Services
• Daymark Recovery Services
• Open Hands of NC/Uwharrie Harm Reduction Coalition
• Partners Behavioral Health Management
Stanly County has been disproportionately affected by the opioid crisis, ranking #1 in opioid overdoses in 2018. The Suda Institute’s efforts will focus on improving outcomes for pregnant and postpartum mothers with substance use disorders, their infants, and service providers. With the help of the HRSA grant, the network will create a sustainable model of care to expand access to treatment and strengthen the rural health system in the region.
