At least two fundraisers started to assist families displaced by a fire Sunday morning.
Chris Gainey has organized a Boston butt fundraiser for Joel Laster Jr., whose family was one of those displaced by a fire at a two-story quadraplex at 85 Falls Road in Badin that burned.
Gainey is selling whole Boston butts, wrapped in foil, for $50. Orders must be placed by Jan. 16 by contacting Gainey on Facebook.
Orders will be picked up between noon at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at 230 N. First St., Albemarle.
Kathryn Hinkle Russell shared the post about Gainey’s fundraiser. She wrote on Facebook: “A dear friend of mine & long time Badin resident lost everything in a house fire this morning – including his long time fur companion & ESA, Ruthie. He has two daughters & a son who lived there with him. Please help them with immediate needs via CashApp ($JoelLaster) or Zelle if you bank with Wells Fargo (Per his request please private message him for this information). Even if it’s $5 it will help. Please pray!! Please feel free to send him a FB message of support & encouragement.”
Morgan Page has organized a GoFundMe for her family. Posting online, Page wrote: “This morning at 5am my family’s house burnt down. My childhood home is practically gone. My parents lost almost everything and have been displaced and will be for MONTHS. Right now they just need the basics as they need clothes, shoes, essentials, ect to get back on their feet. Anything would help and would be greatly appreciated by my parents! This is so devastating to us. Thank you sincerely!”
