M/I Homes of Charlotte has closed on the purchase of about 220 acres in Locust for a new community called Amber Glen. It will be M/I Homes’ first project in Stanly County.
Amber Glen is at 504 N. Central Ave. in Locust, near the intersection of Meadow Creek Church Road and North Central Avenue/N.C. Highway 200. The site is about a mile from the Locust City Park and Locust City Hall.
Amber Glen will offer 184 home sites with designs from M/I Homes’ Smart Series. Homes will feature 2,735 to 3,613 square feet of living space, with three to five bedrooms and up to 3.5 bathrooms, depending on the plan selected. Floor plans will include open layouts with first-floor owner’s suites, stainless steel appliances, kitchen islands, walk-in pantries, and up to three-car garages.
Community amenities will include a pool and cabana. Home prices have not been determined.
“We were attracted to the location because it offers a small-town sense of community with easy access to jobs and activities in Charlotte and other cities,” says George Schulmeyer, area president of M/I Homes in Charlotte. “Locust’s attractive downtown, combined with the area’s shopping, restaurants, and healthcare services have created a great quality of life there. We believe it will appeal to families looking for a more rural, close-knit setting.”
Development of the site is anticipated to begin in late 2024, with sales opening in first quarter 2026.
The announcement of Amber Glen continues M/I Homes’ expansion throughout the greater Charlotte region. Last month, M/I Homes closed on the purchase of 123.5 acres in Mooresville for Cambrey Pointe, a community of 201 single-family homes and 112 townhomes.
