Oakboro’s Annual Christmas Parade will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Parade entries are requested to go to the Oakboro Fire and Rescue Building on College Street to be placed in line for the parade. Large vehicles should go directly to Morgan Chair (the former Rusco location at 209 S. Main St.).
It is important that all parade entries be in the line-up area by 6 p.m. For safety concern — in that it is an evening parade — floats and all other entries need to be lighted in some way.
Call Oakboro Fire and Rescue with questions.
The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Oakboro Memorial Park.
Prior to the Christmas Parade, the Oakboro Regional Museum will be open from 5-7 p.m. Visitors are invited to view the museum’s current rotating exhibit: “Sleigh Bells Ring” — a collection of sleighs and deer belonging to Sarah Lowder.
While visiting the museum, children will be able to create their very own sleigh bell ornament. The history of the Oakboro Parade and photos from previous parades will be featured.
Trees decorated with ornaments made by the children in the 4-year-old classes at Quality Child Care and Oakboro Kids Club will be on display. They will be exhibited in the building at the corner of West Second and North Main streets (at the former Shell Service Station).
Luminaries sponsored by the Oakboro Lions Club will be lighted from 5-9 p.m. during the night of the parade. The luminaries will be placed on the grounds of the Coble/Teeter House at 516 N. Main St. in Oakboro. This is your opportunity to provide a luminary in honor or in memory of someone special. All money from the luminary fund drive will go directly to the North Carolina Lions Brighter Visions and Clinical Eye Research campaign.
Luminaries are $2 per bag. They may be purchased from a member of the Oakboro Lions Club or at Variety Pick-Up in Oakboro at First and Main Street. Orders with payment may be mailed to Oakboro Lions Club, P. O. Box 486, Oakboro, NC 28129.
Some information is needed for each of the luminary bags. The information needed from the donor is the name of the person being honored and the name of the person who is making the donation.
Businesses down Main Street Oakboro will be open and decorated for Christmas. A variety of food vendors will be located at West Third Street. Visitors can enjoy cookies and hot beverages in front of the Oakboro Museum and at various other sites in town.
