During the first week of November, the fifth grade students at Locust Elementary launched a community service project to honor veterans.
Students asked their families, and community members, to sponsor flags that were placed on the front lawn of the school. The community service project incorporated participation from students and staff from all grade levels. News even spread to local organizations and churches that wished to honor military service members through donations.
The project was a huge success, as 505 flags were placed in front of the school in honor of military service members from all branches.
The proceeds from the project will benefit homeless veterans, during the upcoming holiday season, through the VA Center in Salisbury.
