Albemarle police search for bank robbery suspect

ALBEMARLE — The Albemarle Police Department is actively searching for an unknown suspect in connection to a bank robbery reported on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:13 p.m. to First Citizens Bank in the 300 block of North First Street after receiving a report of a robbery in progress.
Investigators said the suspect entered the bank, demanded money and claimed to have a weapon, though no weapon was displayed during the incident; the individual fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
No injuries were reported.
Police are currently unaware of the suspect’s identity but said the individual was captured on surveillance footage. A photo of the suspect has been released by the department as the investigation remains ongoing.
Officers continued searching the area into the late afternoon as the situation remains an active investigation.
Anyone who recognizes the individual pictured or has information related to the case is urged to call 911 immediately. Tips may also be provided directly to the Albemarle Police Department.
