ALBEMARLE — In a report Monday at the Stanly County EDC Board Meeting, a Stanly Community College vice president announced the school’s newest building will be open for students this fall.

Jeff Parsons, vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer for SCC, said he was “happy to announce we reached substantial completion for our new trades facility last Friday.”

Parsons added that college staff will slowly move into the new facility over the summer, with classes starting this August.

Previously, the trades facility was delayed, according to a report from SCC President John Enamait, due to some construction and logistical issues.

“We are deeply grateful to the (county) commissioners for their support for those initiatives,” Parsons said, referring to the water line project, which was necessary for the new building.

Parsons attended Monday’s committee meeting representing Enamait, who was unable to attend.

SCC’s vice president also noted the completion of the refurbishment of the college’s water tower.

Parsons said SCC has received a legislative allocation for a new public safety training facility on the college’s Locust campus.

The design phase for the new facility in Locust, he added, will begin in the fall.

In his report, Parsons said the college was wrapping up its academic year for 2024-25 with three graduation ceremonies, a nurse pinning ceremony and an honor ceremony for graduates.

Parsons said the school’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was also recognized this year as a 324 Reach Chapter, meaning they have “outstanding achievement in membership engagement among the college students.” He added that this year’s inductee class for the academy honor society was among “the larger groups we’ve inducted.”
