Fredrick William “Fritz” Mann was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up on Long Island. He first became interested in golf when he became a caddy at the nearby country club. Mann later helped in the shop and soon was giving lessons to the members. He served five years as an apprentice and then turned pro. Beginning in 1939, Mann served six years in the Army. After World War II he spent time as the resident pro at Seneca, South Carolina; Americus, Georgia; Reading, California; and Springmaid Golf Club in Chester, South Carolina. According to the June 1953 edition of the Badin Carolinian, Mann was hired to replace long-time local golf pro Sam Estridge as the new golf pro at the Stanly County Country Club in Badin. In April 1957, he took a new job at a country club in Martinsville, Virginia, and Sam Estridge returned back to Badin to again serve as the local golf pro. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
