Visiting Pfeiffer University set several new USA South and program records after downing Brevard College 34-5 in the USA South regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Pfeiffer claims the USA South regular season title, finishing 8-0 in league play for the second-consecutive season. The title is their fourth crown in the past five seasons and brings a third straight regular-season trophy to The Village.
The Falcons jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter and tallied 12 goals in the second to take the 19-2 lead into halftime. Seven more goals came the Pfeiffer way in the third to make it 26-4 at the end of the third.
The Falcons added eight goals in the fourth quarter to provide the record-setting 34-5 final.
Pfeiffer had 13 different players score in the game, with Mason Tardiff leading the way with six goals. Dylan Sullivan, Zach Gignac, Andrew Brown, Ethan Miles and Chase Dadabo all scored four goals each. Khyler Johnson scored a pair of goals while six players scored once.
Eli Easley’s goal with 49 seconds remaining set a new Pfeiffer record for goals in a game at 33. The previous record has stood for over 33 years, when Pfeiffer downed Marymount on March 9, 1992 by a 32-3 score
Junior midfielder and faceoff specialist Kerosi Omundi capped the Pfeiffer scoring while scoring his first career goal while going 4-of-8 on faceoffs with 44 seconds remaining.
Using available records, the following USA South and Pfeiffer single-game records were set:
• Pfeiffer and USA South Record – Margin of Victory – 29 (Previously 25, Southern Virginia def. Brevard 31-6, April 23, 2022)
• Pfeiffer and USA South Record – Goals – 34 (previously 31 by Southern Virginia vs. Brevard, April 23, 2022)
• Pfeiffer and USA South Record – Assists – 25 (previously 23 by Ferrum vs. Averett, March 7, 2018)
• Pfeiffer and USA South Record – Points – 59 (previously 51 by Southern Virginia vs. Brevard, April 23, 2022)
• Pfeiffer Record – Ground Balls – 69 (previously 62 at Brevard, March 21, 2023)
• Additionally, the 532 points amassed so far this season, ties Southern Virginia’s USA South single-season points record that was set during the 2022 season.
The Falcons will turn their focus to hosting the USA South semifinals on May 1 and the championship game on May 3, with the start times to be determined.
The USA South, in conjunction with Pfeiffer and the other participating teams, will announce the official bracket and start times in the coming days.
