Stanly Loan and Trust opened for business in downtown Albemarle in 1904. The bank was originally located on South Second Street to give time to build their own building. Their new home, shown in the picture on the left, was completed in 1906 and was located at the corner of Second Street and West Main across from what today is Courthouse Square Park. Eventually, this building became the long-time home of First National Bank of Albemarle and later First Union. Beginning in 1958, the bank underwent a major renovation that completely changed the look of both the interior and exterior of the building (shown at right). An Open House event was held on May 26, 1960, for the bank to celebrate all of the changes. This building was later demolished and replaced by a new bank building that is now the home of Pinnacle Financial Partners. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
