Stanly Community College has acquired 16.1 acres of land adjacent to its Crutchfield Education Center in Locust, bringing the total campus footprint to 26.1 acres.
Purchased from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, this investment supports SCC’s long-term vision for expanding educational and workforce development opportunities in Stanly County.
This acquisition comes as SCC prepares to construct a public safety facility, funded by an allocation in the 2023 North Carolina state budget. Plans call for the facility to be located next to the Crutchfield Education Center and house programs such as Basic Law Enforcement Training, Criminal Justice Technology and Emergency Medical Science.
“The purchase reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of students and employers now and in the future,” said Joe Brooks, chair of the SCC Board of Trustees.
SCC President Dr. John Enamait added, “As the western region of Stanly County continues to grow, it strengthens our role in workforce training and economic development while also serving as a central hub for many expanding areas in and around the county.”
The Crutchfield Education Center already serves as a hub for SCC’s health sciences programs, which has supported traditional students and working professionals for nearly 25 years.
