TROY — The Uwharrie National Forest has fully reopened the Uwharrie Hunt Camp parking lot and campground, capping off a five-month renovation and construction project to significantly improve accessibility and user-friendliness for visitors.
Key upgrades include:
• Enhanced Accessibility: Installation of two pedestrian foot bridges, a concrete accessibility ramp with handrail, and two stairways providing direct access from the parking area to the campground.
• Paved Surfaces: A small area at the entrance to the Badin Lake Recreation Area at Moccasin Creek Road adjacent to the parking lot of Uwharrie Hunt Camp was paved, creating a smoother and more durable surface.
• Improved Water System: The campground is now connected to the municipal water supply rather than the existing well system, ensuring a safe and reliable water source.
• Campsite Renovations: Eight campsites have been upgraded with new tent pad timber frame replacements and aggregate gravel surfacing, offering improved camping conditions.
The campground renovation was made possible by funding from the Great American Outdoors Act.
“These improvements will significantly enhance the experience for visitors to the Uwharrie National Forest,” said Susan Miller, District Ranger. “The enhanced accessibility and upgraded facilities will make the Uwharrie Hunt Camp more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.”
Individual campsites at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp are available on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact the Uwharrie Ranger District office at 910-576-6391.
