Albemarle Police investigates hit and run, shots fired reports

Around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Albemarle Police were called to investigate a reported hit and run on a parked vehicle in the 600 block of Austin Street.
Upon arrival, officers found a silver SUV with damage to the driver’s side doors.
Through the course of their investigation, police learned that possible gunshots had recently been heard in the area. Officers canvased the area and recovered three bullet casings approximately half-block away from the initial call. The casings were not associated with any injuries or property damage.
Officers are working to determine the circumstances surrounding both the hit-and-run and the recovered shell casings.
At this point in the investigation, it is undetermined whether the cases are related.
Investigators will develop suspect vehicle information and disseminate it as necessary.
