The community has found different ways over the last few days to pay tribute to a 14-year-old who died last week.
Landson James Tucker was a student at South Stanly Middle School. He died at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte on Feb. 25.
Stanly County Schools shared the following message with students and parents.
“Good afternoon SSMS families,
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our 8th grade student, Landon Tucker. Our hearts go out to Landon’s family and all who knew and loved him. During this difficult time, we are committed to supporting our students, staff, and families.
“Counselors have been on-site this morning to provide support, and they will continue to be available throughout the week for any student or staff members in need. We encourage you to talk with your child and reach out if they need additional support. If you have any concerns or need resources, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
“We are a strong and caring community, and we will get through this together. Thank you for your support as we navigate this difficult time.”
Many of the schools showed support Friday for Landon’s family by wearing blue, his favorite color. The spirit rock outside South Stanly Middle was also painted in honor of him.
He enjoyed golf, swimming, riding four-wheelers, video games and Legos, as well as cars and gardening.
