The North Stanly men’s basketball team faced a tall task Friday night on the road in the second round of the 2025 2A state playoffs.

After winning at home last Tuesday in OT, the 16th-seeded Comets traveled to the No. 1 team’s gym in the West, the Reidsville Rams.

Reidsville (27-0) opened the game on an 11-3 run, but the Comets rallied to stay close through the first eight minutes.

The Rams eventually went on another long run and then pulled away from North, earning a 94-62 win and a trip to Tuesday’s third round of the state playoffs.

Jalen Walker led the Comets (22-7) with 24 points while Jack Williamson added 15. Gavin Helms missed scoring in double figures for North with eight points.

Dionte Neal paced the Rams (27-0) with 29 points while Keandre Robinson added 25. Johnniyus Sharpe scored 16 for Reidsville and Cam’pen Jones had 13.

After falling behind early, the Comets fought back to within one possession, 23-22.

Reidsville opened the second with a 12-0 run which ended when a technical foul was called on the Rams and Walker hit two free throws. At halftime, the Rams led North 49-36.

The hosts outscored North 25-10 in the third quarter and pulled away for the victory.

Helms, Walker, Jack Williamson and Hayden Towne will graduate this season for the Comets.
