The evolution of Valentine’s Day has progressed to women celebrating the bonds of their friendships and sisterhood, mostly on Feb. 13, but some pay homage to lasting friendships within the first two weeks of this month.
Expressing gratitude and appreciation among these relationships outside the realm of romance is otherwise known as Galantine’s Day. As visionaries of the community, local business owners Sara Ferguson of Pretty Please Boutique and Meredith Moses of Pure Vitality Med Spa partnered to host their first Queen of Hearts Galantine’s Day on Feb. 1.
Approximately 85 women attended an event in the heart of Locust supported by women-owned businesses that offered services and products including spa treatments, clothes, makeup and jewelry coupled with giveaways and coupons.
Guests wore pink themed attire decorated with hearts as they raved about their grand experience of creating memories while perusing the community hub.
Participating vendors that made the event unforgettable were Pretty Please Boutique, Pure Vitality Med Spa, Travelin’ Memories, Daisy Mae Designs, Make “Mia” Cake, Lip N Pour and FireFlyz Mobile Bar.
“My friend told me about this event, and I bought tickets to come out. This is something new in Locust that we wanted to check out together,” said Rachael Taylor about her friend, Lisa Whitman.
Taylor and Whitman have cherished their friendship for more than 10 years after meeting at the hospital emergency department while working together.
Pure Vitality Med Spa marketing manager Liz Peele said, “This is a time friends celebrate girl time. No gentlemen are allowed.”
Other women-owned businesses were invited to join the mission of building inclusive relationships, creating a strong network and a sense of belonging in surrounding cities of Locust.

Pretty Please Boutique’s manager Brandi Long mentioned that operating a “small woman-owned business came with its own setbacks…in a competitive market.”
“We found it very difficult to build entrepreneurial relationships with other like-minded women within the community,” Long said.
Long highlighted that Pretty Please Boutique was dedicated to “cultivating a culture where we [women] support, encourage and strengthen each other.”
