In a high school women’s basketball season where one Albemarle player continues to set personal and county records, another player stepped forward into the spotlight Tuesday night.

Senior forward Jasmine Brown scored her 1,000th career point in the Bulldogs’ 59-23 conference win Tuesday night at Mount Pleasant.

Brown had 12 points to become the seventh Albemarle’s women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 points.

Her teammate, senior guard Amari Baldwin, led Albemarle in the win with 23 points.

“Jasmine sets the tone in the paint for us,” head coach Eric Davis said. “Her achieving 1,000 points show the pure determination, hard work and toughness she plays with, especially considering the injury she had at the end of her freshman year. Coming back from that and accomplishing what she currently has is admirable.”

With the win, the Bulldogs stayed in a tie for first place in the Yadkin Valley Conference standings with Union Academy at 7-1. The two teams split their games this regular season.

Albemarle will face North Stanly at Pfeiffer this Tuesday. The Bulldogs also play Hickory Ridge Saturday and end the regular-season schedule against Montgomery Central.
