Under the direction of Chief Executive Officer Dr. Peggy Terhune, Martin will lead the organization’s strategic planning efforts, build and maintain relationships with state and national policy makers and oversee operations of key business units, enabling the company to continue as well as expand the delivery of care across services.
As CEO, Terhune maintains oversight of the 67-year-old company’s overarching strategic development and will guide organizational growth.
The CEO and president will work in close partnership to ensure alignment between day-to-day execution and broader organizational goals.
“I am thrilled to welcome Blake into this new role as president of Monarch,” said Terhune. “His expertise makes him an ideal partner to help execute our strategy and support our continued growth. Together, we will build on the strong foundation we’ve established.”
Martin brings extensive experience in health care administration, operational oversight and fiscal management. He most recently served as Monarch’s chief strategy officer, where he led the development and implementation of a new five-year strategic plan. He holds both a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree and a bachelor’s degree from Pfeiffer University.
“I am honored to step into this new role at Monarch and work alongside Peggy and this exceptional team,” said Martin. “I look forward to leveraging my experience to ensure operational excellence and the delivery of life-changing care that Monarch is known for.”
Terhune also confirmed that she is not planning to retire.
“I remain deeply committed to leading Monarch and working alongside Blake, our executive leadership team and our Board of Directors to ensure the delivery of high-quality health care to the individuals and families who rely on us.”
Established in 1958, Monarch provides support statewide in North Carolina and in Rhode Island to thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders and traumatic brain injuries. The not-for-profit organization is nationally accredited by The Joint Commission.
