The City of Albemarle is helping develop the next generation of public safety leaders through NC Apprenticeship’s Pre-Apprentice Program.
Jasmine Brown is a senior at Albemarle High School and a Registered Firefighter Pre-Apprentice for the city.
Brown was one of the high school’s first Registered Pre-Apprentices. Students receive high school credits as part of the pre-apprentice program.
After the school day, Brown joins the City of Albemarle Fire Department to job shadow and participate in firefighter training. She’’ done everything from ladder and hose training to fire prevention programs.
“Pre-apprenticeship is a great opportunity. It shows you what the work is like firsthand. I’m really grateful to my teachers and mentors for the chance to learn,” Brown said.
Supporting pre-apprenticeship programs aligns directly with efforts in the City of Albemarle’s Strategic Plan to improve workforce training.
