Today’s picture, from photographer Oliver G. Whitley, shows South Second Street in Albemarle from Main Street looking South. The building on the far left is the current home of the Brown and Senter Law offices. The gap that comes next would later be the Community Building that was built in 1916. Next is the Denning James Building that was the original home of Belk Department Store and then the Central Hotel can barely be seen behind the telephone pole. Beyond that is the building that was originally home to the local newspaper that later became the office of Dr. Splude’s chiropractic business. The building on the right was the long-time home of Allen Clothing Store. The window upstairs in this building has a sign for “J.M. Brown & Son,” which was a precursor to the Brown and Senter law practice. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
